Q&A

#lohudvotes: Why are you running for office or seeking re-election?

Herrera: A VISION YOU ARE A PART OF...

My vision for Ossining is to make our community a better, safer, and thriving place to live, grow and do business. I would like to collaborate and find ways to keep and attract our young people to stay in Ossining. I would also like to focus more time and resources on helping our aging population get the services, and resources to enable them to stay and continue to be an essential part of our community. I would like to develop, grow and embrace a sustainable community, which protects and cherishes our environment.

Where the Village of Ossining residents come in...

In order to have, developed and execute a plan of action for anything, the community must be a part of the process from the very beginning. The process should be a welcoming and fair for all members of the community as whole. Decisions should be influenced by the constituent's (residents) themselves. That is how is how a vision is born and executed.

#lohudvotes: What in your personal, civic or professional experience recommends your election or return to office?

Herrera: -Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce (Board Member & PR Director)
-Ossining Volunteer Fire Department Member- Cataract Hose Co. #2
-Past president of university based Rotaract Club at Lynn University- focusing on national and international humanitarian efforts. Current honorary member of the Ossining Rotary Club

#lohudvotes: What would be your top three priorities if you are elected or re-elected?

Herrera: TRANSPARENCY

Approachability & Info Sharing

Let's team up with our village officials and departments heads to better understand what is going on and the progress being made. I propose to ask Village Managers Office and all Department heads to write monthly reports. These Reports will be made available prior to meeting online with agenda, therefore being accessible by all. Currently it does not function this way.

-Live-Streaming All Public Meetings. Also broadcasting full length meeting, including comment section.

*FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
The Ossining Village Annual Budget

We need to find and explore all ways to stay within the New York State Tax-Cap and work with our county, state and federal partners, including our local school districts.

Continue to research, analyze and discuss any consolidation possibilities (welcoming all ideas, concepts and proposals).

Find ways to reduce Ossining's environmental footprint. Strive to develop more sustainable practices and lifestyles that will be beneficial to all and cost efficient to taxpayers at the same time. We need to continue to partner up with local organizations such as: Green Ossining and other green, sustainable and Eco-friendly advocacy groups throughout the county and state.

ACCOUNTABILITY
Conduct a basic analysis on overall user-friendliness of the Village, its departments; follow up, accountability, resident ratings, and surveys. How are we conducting our daily day to day operations? How can we strive to be a continued work in progress?
