Q&A

Election Central: Why are you running for office or seeking re-election?

Cannon: I am running for another term because I believe it is important that there be a sense of continuity and stability as we transition to new leadership for the District. The more we can help and support our new Superintendent in being successful, the more success we will have as a District.

Election Central: What in your personal, civic or professional experience recommends your election or return to office?

Cannon: We continue to provide a Blue Ribbon School District model, while maintaining the lowest effective school tax rate in the Hudson Valley. I believe that the experience I have gained as a School District Trustee will help us preserve and secure the continuing educational and fiscal viability and achievement of the Garrison Union Free School District.

Election Central: What would be your top three priorities if you are elected or re-elected?

Cannon: I believe that the Board of Education must endeavor to present budgets that meet the expectations of our community by being both fiscally responsible to our taxpayers and educationally sound for all the students of our District.
I believe in high school choice. It is one of the strengths and attractions of our community. It is not only astute and sensible from a fiscal point of view but also from an educational perspective.
I believe that we need to continuously monitor those dynamics, which may have significant short term as well as long term implications for our District. We need to continue to work to solve our immediate issues but also to persist in laying the foundation for our long term well- being.
Finally, I believe that we need the kind of leadership that is collaborative, modest, and generous and representative of the entire Garrison community and allows the Board to preserve the trust and confidence of the people it serves.
