Q&A

Election Central: Why are you running for office or seeking re-election?

Swibold: I want to continue working for all the students and teachers in our school district while being mindful of the needs of the tax payers. I have learned so much over the past 6 years and enjoyed working with my fellow board members and school administrators. I think I have an important perspective and am an important voice on the Board.

Election Central: What in your personal, civic or professional experience recommends your election or return to office?

Swibold: I believe that over the past 6 years, I have shown that I am someone who listens thoughtfully to everyone, who works to make sure that the needs of ALL the members of the schools community are considered in the decisions we make. I came up through the ranks starting when I was President of the Community Nursery School when my son was a student there, then serving in several positions in the Elementary PTA including co-President, and also serving on the board of and President of the Foundation for the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns. I was Executive Director of the Sleepy Hollow Tarrytown Chamber of Commerce and saw my community through that lense and made contacts with people beyond the schools. I think I bring an important perspective to the table.

Election Central: What would be your top three priorities if you are elected or re-elected?

Swibold: 1) Every year a top priority is presenting a budget that everyone can live with it and preserves the good work that we are doing in our schools. I will do as I/'/ve done every year since serving which is to listen, to ask good questions, to discuss the pros and cons and come up with the best budget we can for our students, teachers, and tax payers.
2) We will continue to address the Common Core by making sure we are doing all we need to do in our schools to prepare our students and teachers to deal with the Common Core and the testing involved while making sure our teachers are able to be creative in their classrooms and to inspire their students.
3) We will be working to make sure the building and fields project is carried out efficiently and effectively.
